SEMI and Intersolar to Collaborate on Photovoltaic Innovation

New Exposition will be Held in Conjunction with Intersolar 2009

BRUSSELS, Belgium–12 June 2008–SEMI, the global industry association of companies providing equipment, material and services for the manufacture of semiconductors, displays, photovoltaic cells and related products; Solar Promotion GmbH and Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik and Messe GmbH & Co. KG, organizers of Intersolar, today announced an agreement that will expand the technology and manufacturing presence at Intersolar, the world’s largest solar energy exhibition, held at the New Messe Munich in Germany on May 27-29, 2009. Under the agreement, SEMI will manage the PV manufacturing equipment and materials segment in a dedicated area and co-organize a manufacturing and technology conference and other meetings related to manufacturing and materials.

The market for photovoltaic and solar thermal and products, equipment, materials and services, is exploding worldwide with recent estimates projecting the PV market to grow from US$13 billion today to over $40 billion in 2012. As many new players enter the market, there has been an increase in the number of technical conferences and exhibitions in the solar industry. With this collaboration, SEMI and Intersolar are able to bring together the latest innovations in solar energy technologies from the entire value chain under one roof, resulting in increased efficiency and market impact. Having dedicated area will allow visitors, looking for manufacturing technologies, to focus on their needs. On the other hand the presence of all players will allow for cross-fertilization and benchmarking.

“Solar technologies are not only becoming a pervasive part of the new energy framework, but are of crucial importance to the sustainability of our environment and the global economy,” said Heinz Kundert, president of SEMI Europe. “SEMI members are at the forefront of new developments to increase the efficiency and lower the cost of these technologies, and the association has active PV initiatives in place across every major manufacturing region in the world to effectively support member needs and ensure ongoing industrial and technological advancements.”

This agreement comes as a result of a rapid expansion of solar energy markets worldwide, and the need for a comprehensive exposition, which will address all aspects of the supply chain. In addition to the European agreement, Intersolar and SEMI have partnered to bring Intersolar North America to the US through a co-location agreement with SEMICON West 2008 in July.

“Intersolar is an event of worldwide impact in an industry that is expected to more than triple in size by 2012,” said Markus Elsässer, Solar Promotions Chief Executive . “By adding the SEMI membership’s vast technological and manufacturing expertise, as well as global reach to Intersolar, the event will only become more substantial, and pave the way for an exponentially greater penetration of these technologies in our economies and daily lives.”

We are delighted that the partnership with SEMI which has begun in the context of Intersolar North America is continuing to bear fruit. This partnership is also of great importance for Intersolar Europe,” said Klaus W. Seilnacht, CEO of Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG.

SEMI will be co-organizing the event with Intersolar, occupying portions of the New Messe Munich. Registered visitors to Intersolar will be able to attend the exhibition part of both events without additional fees or separate badges.

Alan J. Heeger Optimism Is Expected Fastest Three Years, Plastic Solar Cells Into The Ordinary People Home

"Conductive plastics can," in 2000, Heeger Professor because of this study was that the Nobel Prize. Yesterday, the 72-year-old professor Alan J. Heeger invited to China South China University of Technology in his speech, he expressed optimism: the fastest three years, people will be expected to use a more environmentally friendly clean energy in a more energy-efficient solar cells - plastic.

Heeger professor in yesterday's speech, described this new type of more environmentally friendly energy products picture of the future: it produced low-cost, simple production processes, but also through the ink-jet printing, and rolling processing, printing large areas of film, If such a notebook computer batteries embedded in the surface, they can at any time in the light conditions under the charge; housing roofs, windows if the coverage of this film, will be able to meet the daily electricity…… At present, after the United States, Japan, China and many countries Scientists efforts, the plastic solar photovoltaic conversion rate of 1 percent to 4 percent, some laboratories have produced close to 60 percent of the devices, but the distance between the industrialization of the requirements of 10 percent still some distance. "When can enter the stage of industrialization, it should be decided by science," but still optimistic Heeger is expected fastest three years, plastic solar cells is expected to enter the general public, and thus the benefit of mankind.

In his speech, Professor Heeger students to ask, how in the field of science and engineering achievements, Heeger said Professor Kwok-him on China's own education system and do not quite understand, but he can certainly point is: "creativity is very important, Spirit of adventure! "Heeger, said that in some countries, people are used to maintain consistency, creativity and risk-taking is not encouraged, but in the United States, independence, the courage to take the risk, dare to do something others can not do is Was praised, young people are willing to try new things.

Hemlock New Plant Production Capacity Of 18,000 Tons / Year

Polysilicon giant, the United States Hemlock Jun.3 issued news. The new plant recently started production to meet the rapid growth of the semiconductor and solar industry needs. This makes the polysilicon Hemlock to expand production capacity almost doubled, reaching 18,000 tons / year.

Hemlock last year announced that 1.5 billion U.S. dollars investment to expand capacity for polysilicon. The new plant design capacity for 9,000 tons / year, enabling the company to the end of the 2008 production reached 19,000 tons and become the world's largest polysilicon producer.

Hemlock is breeds new expansion plan is expected to be put into production in 2010. The plan would allow the Hemlock in 2011 with an annual output reached 36,000 tons.

LDK Solar This Year Is Expected To Become A Global Silicon Boss

In last Friday in Shanghai at the "2008 Fourth China-silicon solar photovoltaic power generation and the seminar" period, LDK Solar chairman Peng xiaofeng told reporters that the end of this year, LDK Solar is expected to become the world's largest solar energy Polysilicon film suppliers.

"At the end of the first quarter of this year, our wafer production capacity has reached 580 MW. Companies with an annual output of 16,000 tons silicon material since the project started in August last year, is being implemented according to schedule and in advance. At present, the company has orders Into the 2018, orders total quantities exceeding 12 GW (12000MW), the world's largest number of orders in hand supplier of polysilicon films. "Peng xiaofeng said.

In the snowflakes, flying in support of the orders, LDK Solar to increase the capacity planning. According to Peng xiaofeng, this year's production target has been increased from 800 MW to 1100 MW, 2009 in the capacity of 1600 MW from the original target to 2000 MW. "These business objective is the development of the market situation, competition situation, the company's survival and development needs of the world photovoltaic industry, new energy, industrial development needs." Peng xiaofeng said.

"Of course, on a scale of the first in the world is only a small step, I would like to build the photovoltaic industry leaders world-class enterprises, which requires not only the leading production capacity in management, personnel, research and development capabilities, market share, etc. Many have to match the comprehensive strength. "Peng xiaofeng said.
